Looking out a window on a bright sunny morning with a breeze, I can see trees swaying, leave petals flying, and cows herding. I wondered how earth was created and what little care we give her. Our minds are more concentrated on what materialistic things Mother Earth gives us from what she produces and we forget that like pregnancy, to produce you have to endure and go through pain first.
In Islam, the Qur’an (the Holy Book), is the ultimate green-guide. The Qur’an glorifies nature and wildlife as an earthly heaven, a mirror to the breathtaking forests of Paradise that lays above. Corruption of earth should be avoided. This earth and what we do in it is what will lead us to a better hereafter. “…And do not desire corruption in the land. Indeed, God does not like corrupters. “ (Qur’an 28:77) “…And do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.” (Qur’an, 2:60).
God didn’t create anything in this universe in vain, without wisdom, value and purpose. Earth provides enough to satisfy every person’s need, but not every person’s greed. Earth allows us to stand. Let it stand the way it is. As children of Mother Earth, we need to give it what it gives us – protection, guidance, and strength.
“Go green before green goes.”
